History
Built in 1924, owned by a woman named Mary Purnell and constructed by Architect George Feltham, The Lantern Lane Apartments were the only apartments overlooking Tampa Bay. Each apartment comprised of one bedroom, a living room, and a kitchenette in a 14’ x 16’ area. From old to new, The Lantern Lane Apartments transformed to The Birchwood. During the transition, all exterior walls and facade were historically preserved during the demolition, an engineering feat in itself.
You can enter the Lounge from the main hotel entrance or from the northeast corner of the hotel where you will notice the original lamppost from the Lantern Lane Apartments. Once inside, you can’t help but notice the crystal doorknobs lining one of the walls. These are original doorknobs from the Lantern Lane Apartments. The décor is timeless and cozy and the atmosphere has a great vibe!
The Lantern Lane Lounge is a sought after gathering place that offers something for everyone. Daily drink specials, custom cocktails, an extensive wine and bubbly selection as well as appetizer and menu selections from Birch & Vine.
