St. Petersburg Opera produces professional, fully-staged operas in the historic, 880-seat Palladium Theater in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as other venues in the Tampa Bay area. With excellent acoustics and the intimacy of an old-style European opera house, the Palladium venue favors hearing the voices and seeing up-close the expressions of our artists, creating an enriching experience for the patron.
SPO brings artistic brilliance, educational initiatives and vitality to the greater Tampa Bay area through
* The production of top-quality operas of a diversity of style including the traditional masterpieces, light opera, and broadway opera. SPO also brings creative, yet accessible updates of familiar works to the stage.
* The casting of both established opera singers as well as exceptional singers in the beginning stages of their careers. SPO also fosters artistic excellence in the hiring of professional musicians from orchestras such as the Florida Orchestra and Sarasota Orchestra to create the critically acclaimed St. Petersburg Opera Orchestra.
* Providing economic stimulus to the area. SPO provides work opportunities for local professional singers, orchestral players, designers, directors and stage crew.
* Providing educational initiatives. Twice a year SPO conducts a three-week Apprentice Program for emerging opera singers. We also collaborate with other local arts organizations to produce classic operas in appropriate settings for children. SPO also makes available to disadvantaged children free or greatly reduced tickets to our productions.
* Community Outreach. SPO takes opera out to the populace of Pinellas County at the Saturday Morning Market, Pinellas Opera League in Dunedin, Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, Largo Cultural Center, St. Petersburg Main Library and Shorecrest Preparatory School, amongst other venues.
